In the News: Florida has adopted a new law that changes the way teachers will be evaluated and paid. It ties teachers’ pay to their overall effectiveness and relies heavily on student test scores as a way of judging teacher quality.

In the News: This week we take a look at the North African country of Libya as well as its leader, Colonel Muammar el-Qaddafi, who has been in power since 1969.

Also In the News: March 25th was the 100th anniversary of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire that claimed the lives of 146 immigrant workers. According to the ILR School at Cornell University, this incident continues to have great significance because “it highlights the inhumane working conditions to which industrial workers can be subjected. In the News: The 8.9-magnitude earthquake that struck Japan on March 11th triggered a tsunami that swept over the country’s Pacific coast line. The death toll will likely exceed 10,000. Three nuclear reactors suffered partial meltdowns while another saw the release of radioactive material into the atmosphere. These devastating events have brought the debate over the pros and cons of nuclear energy to the forefront.
