In the News: Judith Wallerstein has died at the age of 90. In 1971, she studied children from divorced families and interviewed them every five years over the course of 25 years. Wallerstein’s findings detailed the consequences of divorce and she noted that, for many of the children, the negative effects continued into adulthood.

The L.A. Riots

In the News: On April 29, 1992, the South Central L.A. area erupted in civil unrest immediately following the acquittal of four L.A.P.D. officers who had been accused of beating a black man, Rodney King. The National Guard was deployed to the area to enforce curfews and suppress the disorder. Many Korean-owned shops in Koreatown were looted which prompted the community to come together and defend their businesses from rioters.
