Caribbean Newspapers, 1718-1876 . Created in cooperation with the American Antiquarian Society—one of the world’s largest and most important newspaper repositories—this collection provides students and scholars with easy access to more than 150 years of Caribbean and Atlantic history, cultures and daily life. Featuring more than 140 newspapers from 22 islands, this resource chronicles the region’s evolution across two centuries through eyewitness reporting, editorials, legislative information, letters, poetry, advertisements, obituaries and other news items. SCOAP3 Open Access Initiative

Florida Atlantic University Libraries is proud to support Open Access by becoming a SCOAP³ (Sponsoring Consortium for Open Access Publishing in Particle Physics) partner. On January 1, 2014, CERN announced the start of the SCOAP³ Open Access publishing initiative. Mango Languages

January 2014 Database of the Month

Mango Languages is an online self-paced language learning system covering over 40 languages and including 16 ESL classes taught in the native language, and four Religious and Scholarly language courses. Each lesson combines real life situations and audio from native speakers with simple, clear instructions.  Each Mango lesson is focused on practical, common conversation skills and includes instruction on vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar, AND culture.

Congressional Research Service (CRS) Reports

The FAU Libraries have added the ProQuest Congressional Research Service (CRS) Reports archive to the ProQuest Congressional database. The CRS Reports, 1916-2013, include the full text of reports from the Congressional Research Service (CRS) which was established within the Library of Congress to provide members, committees, and congressional staff with nonpartisan and objective research and analysis on all public policy issues. ProQuest Congressional provides the tools for searching the Congressional Record, finding members of Congress, tracking proposed legislation by keyword and sponsor, searching Congressional hearings, the Federal Register, the U.S. Serial Set Digital Collection, Congressional committee schedules, Committee Prints & Misc. Publications and Congressional Research Service (CRS) Reports.

LGBT Studies in Video

November 2013 Database of the Month

LGBT Studies in Video is a cinematic survey of the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people as well as the cultural and political evolution of the LGBT community. This first-of-its-kind collection features award-winning documentaries, interviews, archival footage, and select feature films exploring LGBT history, gay culture and subcultures, civil rights, marriage equality, LGBT families, AIDS, transgender issues, religious perspectives on homosexuality, global comparative experiences, and other topics. One of the primary partners for this collection is Frameline, a nonprofit media organization that produces the San Francisco International LGBT Film Festival, the oldest film festival devoted to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender programming currently in existence.

Nineteenth Century Collections Online

October 2013 Database of the Month

Nineteenth Century Collections Online provides searchable content from a wide range of primary sources for the “long” 19th century. This is an international primary source collection of 19th century materials, such as monographs, personal diaries, manuscripts, photographs, and maps. Archives include: British Politics and Society; Asia and the West: Diplomacy and Cultural Exchange; British Theatre, Music, and Literature: High and Popular Culture; and CORVEY Collection of European Literature (1790-1840). New in Streaming Video

The FAU Libraries have purchased additional content for existing streaming video collections, as well as added new collections.  Two new volumes have been added to the series, Counseling and Therapy in Video, enhancing the collection with emerging topics and featuring distinguished therapists. High-value archival material has been added to Ethnographic Video Online, and influential issue-based documentaries of 2009 through 2013 are included in the second volume of Filmakers Library. The Libraries now own the complete BBC Shakespeare plays in streaming video, and  a collection of award-winning documentaries, interviews, archival footage, and select feature films exploring LGBT culture, history and life.
