Points of View Reference Center – September Database of the Month

Points of View Reference Center is a full-text database that includes a series of essays that present multiple sides of a current issue. The database provides more than 270 topics, each with an overview (objective background/description), point (argument), counterpoint (opposing argument), and Critical Thinking Guide. In addition, you can find  research guides to debate, developing arguments and writing position papers. Counseling and Therapy in Video provides the largest and richest online collection of video available for the study of social work, psychotherapy, psychology, and psychiatric counseling—400 hours and more than 330 videos on completion. The collection’s wealth of video and multiplicity of perspectives allow students and scholars to see, experience, and study counseling in ways never before possible. The videos in this collection, drawn from the catalogs of Microtraining Associates, Psychotherapy.net, and the University of Manchester Department of Psychiatry, have been created by a variety of organizations and individuals dedicated to the advancement of education and training in counseling and therapy. This current release includes 284 videos totaling roughly 314 hours.

Foreign Broadcast Information Service (FBIS) Daily Reports (1974-1996) contains comprehensive media reports from around the globe which have been translated into English from more than 50 languages. The reports, collected by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), include news, interviews, and speeches transcripted from radio broadcasts and official news services.

The Daily Reports are key primary source materials which are useful for a better understanding of world history. They can be searched easily by date, keywords, countries/regions, or events and are organized around eight world regions – Africa, Asia, Australia/Oceania, Caribbean, Europe, Middle East /Near East, North America, and South America.  Continue reading
