Banned Books Week (September 30-October 6)

Week of October 1, 2012

In the News: BANNED BOOKS WEEK

The 30th anniversary of Banned Books Week begins on September 30 and runs through October 6. In 1982, the American Library Association’s Office for Intellectual Freedom (OIF) began publicizing the challenges to library materials that were made by patrons and other user groups. Based on reports from libraries, schools, and the media, here is just a sample of those challenged books (1982-present) as compiled by the OIF. See http://www.ala.org/advocacy/banned/frequentlychallenged for more information. Also, stop by the Wimberly Library lobby to view some of the books that have been banned or challenged in libraries across the U.S.
