America’s Historical Newspapers allows users to search more than 1,000 U.S. historical newspapers published between 1690 and 1922, including titles from all 50 states. Created by Readex through partnerships with the American Antiquarian Society, Library of Congress, Wisconsin Historical Society and others, America’s Historical Newspapers enables researchers to explore virtually every aspect of America during the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries.
EARLY AMERICAN NEWSPAPERS, SERIES 1, 1690-1876
Series 1 offers more than 700 historical American newspapers from 23 states and the District of Columbia printed between 1690 and 1876. Focusing primarily on the 18th century, Series 1 is based on Clarence S. Brigham’s “History and Bibliography of American Newspapers, 1690-1820” and other authoritative bibliographies.
EARLY AMERICAN NEWSPAPERS, SERIES 2, 1758-1900
Series 2 provides access to more than 200 significant 18th and 19th-century newspapers, focusing on the period between 1820 and 1860, when the number of American newspapers increased significantly. Series 2 is based on Winifred Gregory’s “American Newspapers 1821-1936: A Union List of Files Available in the United States and Canada.”
These collections provide a wealth of information on most aspects of life and events during the early period of America’s history.
