Nineteenth Century Collections Online provides searchable content from a wide range of primary sources for the “long” 19th century. This is an international primary source collection of 19th century materials, such as monographs, personal diaries, manuscripts, photographs, and maps. Archives include: British Politics and Society; Asia and the West: Diplomacy and Cultural Exchange; British Theatre, Music, and Literature: High and Popular Culture; and CORVEY Collection of European Literature (1790-1840).
Archive Descriptions:
- British Politics and Society. Sourced from a variety of institutions including the British Library and Oxford University, this archive covers such topics as British domestic and foreign policy, the working class, trade unions, Chartism, utopian socialism, public protest, radical movements, and many others.
- Asia and the West: Diplomacy and Cultural Exchange. Sourced from The National Archives, Kew, The National Archives, United States, and other collections, this archive covers such topics as British and U.S. foreign policy and diplomacy; Asian political, economic, and social affairs; the Philippine Insurrection; the Opium Wars; the Boxer Rebellion; missionary activity in Asia, and many others.
- British Theatre, Music, and Literature: High and Popular Culture. This archive features a wide range of primary sources related to the arts in the Victorian era, from playbills and scripts to operas and complete scores.
- European Literature, 1790-1840: The Corvey Collection. This unique collection of monographs includes a wide range of Romantic literature published in English, French and German. Sourced from Castle Corvey in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.
