Nineteenth Century Collections Online provides searchable content from a wide range of primary sources for the “long” 19th century. This is an international primary source collection of 19th century materials, such as monographs, personal diaries, manuscripts, photographs, and maps. Archives include: British Politics and Society; Asia and the West: Diplomacy and Cultural Exchange; British Theatre, Music, and Literature: High and Popular Culture; and CORVEY Collection of European Literature (1790-1840). Arab-Israeli Relations, 1917-1970 – December Database of the Month

Arab-Israeli Relations, 1917-1970 includes a wide range of original source materials — letters, minutes, reports, and maps — from the 1917 Balfour Declaration through to the Black September war of 1970-1. These documents, housed in the National Archive, London, are from the Foreign Office, Colonial Office, War Office and Cabinet Papers. Major policy statements and minor documents reveal the workings of colonial administration and, following the creation of the State of Israel in 1948, British diplomacy towards Israel and the Arab states. International Labour Day – May 1st

Political & Rights Issues & Social Movements (PRISM), a digital collection, is being highlighted in observance of International Workers’ Day or Labor Day. PRISM, a digitization collaboration of Florida Atlantic University and University of Central Florida libraries, features a collection of pamphlets from the 19th and 20th centuries reflective of leftist and liberal views and experiences not dissimilar to those of today.

PRISM is one of several collections in the Publication of Archival, Library & Museum Materials (PALMM), a cooperative digital initiative of the 11 state university libraries of Florida to provide access to source materials for research and scholarship.

In the News: Former women business executives are setting their sights on the government. Carly Fiorina, past CEO of Hewlett Packard, and Meg Whitman, former eBay chief executive, won their respective California Republican primary elections last Tuesday: Ms. Fiorina for U.S. Senate and Ms. Whitman for governor. Both candidates spent millions of dollars on their campaigns and will most likely attempt to outspend their rivals in the upcoming general elections.

In the News: It’s “Expressions of Peace Week” at Florida Atlantic University. The 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet will give a public address on February 24th.

Also In the News: The Conservative Political Action Conference, or CPAC, took place in Washington, DC this past week. According to the American Conservative Union website, this “convention for conservative activists” draws about 10,000 attendees each year.
