{"id":823,"date":"2009-03-18T11:13:28","date_gmt":"2009-03-18T15:13:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/libweb.fau.edu\/blog\/?p=823"},"modified":"2012-04-23T15:55:52","modified_gmt":"2012-04-23T19:55:52","slug":"in-the-news-singularity-university","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/libweb.fau.edu\/blog\/in-the-news-singularity-university\/","title":{"rendered":"In the News: Singularity University"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><strong>Week of March 16, 2009<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>News Item<\/strong>: In February MIT Professor Ray Kurzweil secured an agreement with NASA and Google to embark on &#8220;Singularity University.&#8221; SU will offer classes and research programs examining biotechnology, nanotechnology, and Kurzweil&#8217;s overall vision of a society where the &#8220;artificial intelligence&#8221; and decision making powers of computers will eventually surpass and replace similar capacities of humans. Especially in the latter half of the twentieth century, social scientists and self-proclaimed &#8220;futurologists&#8221; have assessed and ventured predictions on how automation and information technology influence economics, culture, and society.
