In the News: SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN TURNS 60

How can we get us through the rainy days of summer in Southeast Florida? Watch Gene Kelly kick up his heels in a 60-year-old Hollywood musical, of course. Singin’ in the Rain reminds us of the problems many Hollywood studios and silent film actors faced during the advent of sound films, or “talkies,” in the late 1920s. Roger Federer won his seventh Men’s Singles Wimbledon Championship while Serena Williams finished with her fifth title. Williams also won the Women’s Doubles Championship with her sister, Venus. This was Wimbledon win number five for the sisters.

In the News: Judith Wallerstein has died at the age of 90. In 1971, she studied children from divorced families and interviewed them every five years over the course of 25 years. Wallerstein’s findings detailed the consequences of divorce and she noted that, for many of the children, the negative effects continued into adulthood.
